As a kid growing up, being thin just came natural. I never had to worry about what I was eating, I just ate what I wanted when I wanted and had no knowledge of what I was or wasn’t putting in my body. We did not grow up learning about being healthy. My mom, love her dearly, made casseroles with lots of cheese and carbs and yumminess but there just wasn’t any talk about putting healthy foods in our bodies. I have always been active and played volleyball since I was 12 and continue playing today. But soon enough, just playing volleyball wasn’t enough to keep my weight in check. I had noticed my steady weight gain over the years but just didn’t have the personal motivation or the know how to do anything about it. I did Weight Watchers at one point, and that did work. I lost weight and felt better. But as soon as I hit my goal weight, I went right back to eating whatever I wanted. Then I got into the relationship rut. You know, where you go out to eat all the time, you're happy and carefree. Well the weight started to come back and this time I reached my heaviest weight.
My relationship ended, I was going through a tough time and, in an unhealthy way, had lost about 20 lbs. But I wanted to be healthy and I needed to do something for me. I had joined a volleyball team here in Valparaiso and we were sponsored by this little gym in town. Our captain kept telling us how much she loved training with Pedram and it got me thinking. I know that I can not do this on my own. I know I need someone pushing me and holding me accountable. So I contacted Pedram and asked if I could come to a class and check it out. I was hooked after the first class. I knew that he could push me to hit the goals I had, even if I wasn’t totally sure what those were yet. After a few months of classes, Pedram convinced me to join a challenge. I was skeptical only because I am somewhat of a picky eater. I don’t really like fruits and not many vegetables. I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to stick to the diet. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of the plan and became a believer! I have created healthy habits when planning my meals and I have a smoothie almost every morning for breakfast now. There is always room for improvement, but I am on my way to having a healthier relationship with food.
As for the training. For the first year that I was coming to Fitrain, I was doing 6 PM classes and loving it! I loved working out with my ladies and we had fun but also pushed each other and cheered each other on! This past June, I suffered a back injury and was unable to do much of anything for a few weeks. Pedram was so helpful to me and not only worked with me one on one to get me back moving but when I was at my worst, called in some favors from some of his friends to help me out. Since then I have been doing personal training with Pedram and even though I miss my ladies, the amount of strength I have gained is undeniable. I have not felt this strong and healthy maybe ever. I am finally pushing myself to do things I never thought I would be able to do. I still don’t enjoy cardio and I might complain through my whole session but I really do love every second of it.
I still go through ups and downs with my weight and I have a hard time cutting out those sweets but I am determined to get to and stay at my goal weight. I really just want to be happy and comfortable in my own skin again and I am closer than ever to achieving that goal.
